The Huitzilin (colibri in the Aztec language) will take you through the best of Mexico in an interior painted with the blue hues of Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul. This small restaurant (with just a little more than a dozen tables) run by a Mexican family has the typical charm of a cantina.

In the menu, you will find perfectly prepared typical dishes such as the beef burritos with chipotle sauce for 10€, a refreshing and neat looking cactus salad served with totopos for 7€, and for desert a cheesy crème caramel (the flan de queso) for 6€.

We love that the restaurant provides a takeaway service for most dishes, which is convenient if you live close by, or if you want to eat outside.

Azteca

Since 1986, a French-Mexican couple promised each other to bring the Mexican sun in Paris for their enjoyment and also our pleasure.

Located close to Les Halles, Azteca offers two rooms with two different atmospheres. On the first floor, the pleasant decoration is typically Mexican from floor to ceiling. While in the basement, it’s party time in a big vaulted cave with a bar. It’s the perfect place to spend the night with friends.

Every dish is prepared with ingredients produced in Mexico, and we can feel it! Among the regional specialties, we suggest you the Cochinita Pibil for 20€. A truly delightful treat which consists of pulled pork with a spicy achiote sauce and a subtle mix of lemon and orange.

And if you enjoy spicy food, you can tell the waiter how spicy you want it. Only the more courageous will take the ultra spicy salsa del diablo.

Hours: Monday to Saturday from noon to 2:30 P.M and from 7 P.M to 11 P.M.

Ranging from 7 to 10€, the sandwiches are made of a main ingredient of your choosing, tomatoes, onions and avocados, which are then spread with a bean purée.

Feel free to order a desert since they’re all home-made. We suggest you the pastel tres leches with rum, which is a pure delight. Mexican beer lovers will be thrilled to find a good selection ranging from the Corona to the Pacifico.

The Cochinita Pibil for 9.80€ is prepared with organic rice and black beans as well as seasonal vegetables. And for the same price, you can have the braised beef Barbacoa with a homemade chimichurri sauce prepared with fresh herbs and lime.
