In the 3rd districts, the Arts and Crafts area owes its name to the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, founded in 1794 by Abbot Gregory with the goal to bring together all the newly invented machines and tools in one place.
Today, as well as the Museum, the CNAM houses the craft schools that give their name to the Arts and Crafts district near the Temple and Centre Beaubourg.
