The Musée d'Art Moderne (Museum of Modern Art) of the City of Paris occupies the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo. It was built on the occasion of the 1937 International Exhibition, but the Museum was only inaugurated in 1961. The Musée d'Art Moderne is devoted to the art of the XXth century. It tells the story of the great artistic movements through more than 8,000 works ranging from Fauvism to contemporary art. The works of Braque and Picasso are displayed alongside contemporary creations, whether paintings, photography, sculpture, installations or video. The Musée d'Art Moderne has therefore set itself the task of revealing young contemporary artists to the general public. As well as its permanent collections, which can be visited free of charge, the Musée d'Art Moderne organises numerous temporary exhibitions devoted to the great names in modern art or to the most influential movements. The Musée d'Art Moderne also houses the FEMIS (European foundation for the image and sound trades) as well as the Cinémathèque (French Film Archive) and the CNP (National Photography Centre). For lovers of modern art, the Palais de Tokyo is situated in the XVIth arrondissement of Paris, Metro station Alma-Marceau. www.mam.paris.fr
