The city of Quimper is a city of merchants and shipowners, with many timber-framed and stone houses. Most of the historic heritage of Quimper can be seen in the Locmaria district - the Romanesque church dating from the 12th century, the former priory and the medieval garden. The paved streets of the historical centre of Quimper keep their charm of yore, and the names of streets refer to old trades - Butchers' street, Curing street, Butter square etc. The Cathedral of Saint Corentin is a gem of Breton Gothic Art.
