As an artist synonymous with blackness and light, Pierre Soulage is recognised as one of the greatest painters of the current French artistic scene. With his 90th birthday now approaching, the Pompidou Centre is devoting a major exhibition to him, including more than 100 leading works produced between 1946 and the present-day.

Interior furnishings enjoyed an incredible boom in the economic, social and artistic environment of the post-war years. New materials were used, lifestyles were changing and furniture too. This exhibition focuses on internationalisation, with the arrival in France of foreign artists and furniture.

At the Luxembourg Museum until January 17, 2010. Without a shadow of a doubt, Tiffany was one of the greatest glass artists from the early 20th century. Skilfully combining light and colour, he brought a whole new approach to blown glass vases, stained glass, lamps and other items. The Fête des Lumières (the Light Festival) from December 5-8
Over the space of four days, Lyon will be decked out with lights. From the Fourvière cathedral to the Place des Terreaux, and from Bellecour to the Parc de la tête d'or, virtually all of the city's buildings will be displaying magnificent images projected onto the walls, bringing you a host of video clips and soundtracks to create a truly enchanting atmosphere. This is a sight unique of its kind and one you definitely shouldn't miss!

Strasbourg's Christmas market from November 28 to December 31
You'll find the town's superb Christmas market grouped around Strasbourg's cathedral until the end of the year. Organised since 1570, the fame of this market is constantly spreading thanks to its traditional stalls and its many sights and activities clearly displaying a spirit of tolerance and humanism. The joy of sharing, openness and fellowship are just some of the watchwords for the many attractions and activities offered by the market.

Work by the modern artists will be on display at Lyon’s Musée des Beaux Arts (Fine Arts Museum) until February 15, 2010
From Matisse to Picasso, not forgetting Dubuffet, Bacon and the others, some of the greatest modern artists who influenced the artistic movements of the 20th century will be gathered together for an outstanding exhibition. This exhibition will be featuring almost 200 works, some of which are virtually unknown to the public.
