Tourist Information
To the west of Paris, the Bois de Boulogne - the Boulogne Forest - has become an unmissable place to visit and relax. It includes the Parc de Bagatelle, the Auteuil Greenhouses Botanic Garden, the Catalan Lawn and the Jardin d'Acclimatation zoological park.
It was originally the hunting ground of French royalty, but rapidly became a fashionable place for the public to walk. In 1848, the Bois de Boulogne became the property of the French state, which passed it to the City of Paris in 1852. Today, the Bois de Boulogne covers 846 hectares and is crisscrossed by 28 km of horseback trails, 15km of cycling trails as well as wonderful pedestrian walkways.
The forest also includes a number of restaurants and children's play areas, as well as distinctively styled buildings. Finally, the Bois de Boulogne is accessible by Metro, bus and RER.
