The Eiffel Tower was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel and built in just over two years for the 1889 World\u2019s Fair.<\/p>\n

Back then, many people thought it was too tall or too strange, but it quickly became the symbol of Paris and of France itself.<\/p>\n

It stands 1,063 feet tall (324 meters)\u2014about the height of an 81-story skyscraper\u2014and until 1930 it was the tallest man-made structure in the world.<\/p>\n

Today, its special bronze-brown paint (officially called \u201cEiffel Tower Brown\u201d) protects it from rust and gives it that unique look you\u2019ve seen in postcards and movies.<\/p>\n
