I went to Angelina, the most famous tea room in Paris, to see what it\u2019s really like. It’s known for beautiful pastries, Belle \u00c9poque d\u00e9cor, and rich hot chocolate (which I didn\u2019t order!). Here\u2019s what I saw, what I ate, and why this place still draws people from all over the world.<\/p>\n

When I walked into Angelina on Rue de Rivoli, it felt like stepping into old Paris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The place is fancy but warm, with pretty lights, big mirrors,<\/strong> and lots of little details<\/strong> from over 100 years ago.<\/p>\n

It first opened in 1903<\/strong>, and people still come today for the beautiful cakes and elegant atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Origins of Angelina<\/h3>\n

Angelina\u2019s story begins in 1903, when visionary confectioner Antoine Rumpelmayer opened the first tearoom at 226 Rue de Rivoli<\/strong> in Paris.<\/p>\n

Determined to offer a refined space for Parisian high society, he named the venue in honor of his daughter-in-law.<\/p>\n

Designed in the elegant Belle \u00c9poque<\/strong> style by renowned architect Edouard-Jean Niermans, the tea room quickly became known for its exquisite pastries\u2014like the famed Mont-Blanc<\/strong> dessert\u2014and its secret-recipe hot chocolate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This blend of high-quality culinary artistry and sophisticated d\u00e9cor helped establish Angelina as an enduring symbol of Parisian refinement.<\/p>\n

Why It Became Famous<\/h3>\n

This pastry is called Mont-Blanc<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Angelina became famous for two things: the Mont-Blanc<\/strong> dessert and its rich hot chocolate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Mont-Blanc<\/strong> is a pastry made with sweet chestnut cream, whipped cream, and a crisp meringue in the center. It looks like a little mountain (that\u2019s where the name comes from), and it\u2019s been on the menu for over 100 years. People come just to try it.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the hot chocolate, known as \u201cl\u2019Africain.\u201d<\/strong> It\u2019s thick, dark, and served with whipped cream on the side. Some say it\u2019s like drinking melted chocolate bars. Even if I didn\u2019t try it<\/strong>, I saw many tables ordering it\u2014and it’s easy to see why it’s their signature drink.<\/p>\n

These two treats helped make Angelina one of the most well-known caf\u00e9s in Paris.<\/p>\n
