While the Arc de Triomphe itself hasn\u2019t changed since it was completed in 1836, traffic has certainly increased since then.<\/p>\n

The vegetation has also increased, but the buildings remain unchanged, retaining their original style.<\/p>\n

This consistency shows the attention that France gives to its monuments, conserving this quintessential\u00a0 Parisian landmark over decades.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Place Vend\u00f4me<\/h2>\n

The Place Vend\u00f4me, begun in 1686, is the symbol of luxury in the city of fashion.<\/p>\n

The square has become much more pedestrian-friendly over the years. Now, there is only a small stretch of road devoted to cars,unlike 100 years ago.<\/p>\n

We can also assume that there are more tourists, as the first photo seems to show Parisians going about their business, whereas the recent photo shows a crowd of tourists.<\/p>\n

The public has certainly changed over the last hundred years!<\/p>\n

Eiffel Tower, view from the Trocad\u00e9ro<\/h2>\n

The Eiffel Tower opened in 1889 for the World\u2019s Fair held in Paris. At the time, it was the tallest structure in the world.<\/p>\n

The area around it, now the Trocad\u00e9ro Gardens, was built differently back then, with large exhibition halls that no longer exist today.<\/p>\n

The tower was originally meant to be temporary, but it became permanent and is now the most visited paid monument in the world.<\/p>\n

H\u00f4tel de Ville<\/h2>\n

This is the H\u00f4tel de Ville, the Paris City Hall. The current building was finished in 1882, after the original was destroyed by fire during the Paris Commune in 1871. Its exterior hasn\u2019t changed much since 1900.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s different today is the large public square in front, now used for events, markets, and fountains.<\/p>\n

The area around it has also been made more pedestrian-friendly.<\/p>\n

Place de la Concorde<\/h2>\n

This is Place de la Concorde, the largest square in Paris. The Luxor Obelisk in the center has been there since 1836.<\/p>\n

In the 1920 photo, the square is already a busy traffic hub with early cars.<\/p>\n

Today, the layout is similar, but there are modern streetlights, more traffic control, and the area is now better designed for pedestrians and events.<\/p>\n

The buildings in the background remain mostly unchanged.<\/p>\n

Passage des Panoramas<\/h2>\n

The Passage des Panoramas is the oldest covered passage in Paris!<\/p>\n

Built\u00a0 in 1799, the passage has been home to traditional shops for centuries, and as you can see from both pictures, there aren\u2019t that many differences.<\/p>\n

Lanterns add to its characteristic picturesque style, and the luxury shops, bootmakers, goldsmiths, toy sellers, and booksellers have given way to a number of small restaurants, stamp and postcard shops, antique shops, and exhibition and art events.<\/p>\n

Moulin Rouge<\/h2>\n

This is the Moulin Rouge, the famous cabaret in Montmartre, opened in 1889.<\/p>\n

The red windmill on top has always been its symbol. In 1900, the building had more decorative towers and turrets, which were removed after a fire in 1915.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s version is simpler but brighter, with neon lights and modern signage.<\/p>\n

The venue still hosts shows every night and remains one of the most popular nightlife spots in Paris.<\/p>\n

The Louvre<\/h2>\n

This is the Cour Napol\u00e9on, the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace.<\/p>\n

In 1858, it was a quiet garden space with trees and a round lawn.<\/p>\n

Les Halles, in the heart of Paris, was once the city’s main food market, packed with merchants selling fresh produce, meat and seafood.<\/p>\n

Nicknamed the \u2018belly of Paris\u2019, it supplied the entire capital.<\/p>\n

In 1969, the market was moved to the suburbs (to Rungis), and the area was transformed.<\/p>\n

Today, it is a modern commercial and cultural centre with a park and the Forum des Halles, a huge underground shopping centre.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere is still lively, but the place has changed completely since the days of the market.<\/p>\n

Its timber-frame structure, adorned with wooden beams and small windows, offers a rustic charm that contrasts with the more modern surroundings.<\/p>\n

Once believed to be the oldest house in Paris, later research revealed that a building on Rue de Montmorency holds that title.<\/p>\n

Still, 3 Rue Volta remains a captivating glimpse into the city\u2019s medieval past, preserving its unique character amidst the ever-evolving urban landscape.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The View from Arc de Triomphe<\/h2>\n

The view from the Arc de Triomphe is truly unforgettable! The view from the top of the Tour Montparnasse is one of my favorites.<\/p>\n

In these pictures, you can see that some buildings have been modified over the years and a metro station has been built, seen on the left of the central building in the picture.<\/p>\n

The sidewalks have also been reduced to widen the traffic lane.<\/p>\n

In the other two photos, you can see that the vegetation is more lush and some buildings have been renovated The Ferris Wheel from the 1900 Paris Exhibition, which was destroyed in 1920, is also visible in the image.<\/p>\n

\"View<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rue Soufflot with the Panth\u00e9on in the background<\/h2>\n

\"Rue<\/p>\n

November 11th, 1920 on the Rue Soufflot was a solemn occasion!<\/p>\n

As you can see, it was decorated for Armistice Day, with stone pedestals along the street to commemorate the death of L\u00e9on Gambetta and the Unknown Soldier, who were later laid to rest in the Panth\u00e9on and under the Arc de Triomphe, respectively.<\/p>\n

Today, the Panth\u00e9on can be admired from the street, adding some cachet to the place.<\/p>\n

Place des Pyramides<\/h2>\n

The Place des Pyramides, formerly known as Place de Rivoli because of its location, was inaugurated in 1801.<\/p>\n

Between these two pictures, you can see that the buildings have been renovated and look cleaner, and the road has been paved, making it easier for cars to get around.<\/p>\n

Passage Cottin<\/h2>\n

This photo shows Passage Cottin from 1900 and today. Even though a hundred years separate these pictures, the street looks almost the same.<\/p>\n

The same old charm is still there, and the style of the buildings hasn\u2019t really changed.<\/p>\n

It’s like the street is a time capsule, keeping its special look no matter how much time passes.<\/p>\n

In the old picture, you don\u2019t see the tower behind the Hotel du Tertre, but today it stands there.<\/p>\n

Even with that difference, the square still has the same friendly, charming feeling as long ago, with its little cafes and busy art scene that make it special.<\/p>\n
