With its six Christmas markets<\/a>, Colmar is the best place to spend your end of year celebrations<\/strong>. There, you may find all that makes Alsace proud: christollen, gendarmes<\/em>, bredele, bretzel, berawecka, Rangen bottles\u2026<\/p>\n

Have a stroll in the paved streets flanked by Alsatian houses, such as house Pfister <\/strong>whose fa\u00e7ade is covered with paintings, or house Adolf<\/strong> which is the town\u2019s oldest one.<\/p>\n

During four days<\/strong>, Lyon\u2019s iconic monuments light up for the famous Light Festival<\/a>. This must-go event takes place at the beginning of December<\/strong> and I recommend that you plan ahead your stay in the city if you want to find a room in a hotel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As you wander around the city, you\u2019ll come face to face with lighted sculptures<\/strong> and other art creations. At nightfall, the Saint Jean cathedral, as well as the quays or Saint Paul station will appear transfigured <\/strong>before you.<\/p>\n

Given the history of Lyon, you must visit the MAM<\/a> which is a museum dedicated to puppet craft<\/strong>. Indeed, puppets are an important part of French culture. A famous puppet character, called Guignol<\/em><\/strong>, was invented in Lyon.<\/p>\n

This Guignol was supposed to be a caricature of a silkweaver<\/strong> –un canut<\/em> in French- since silk weaving was Lyon\u2019s main industry at that time.<\/p>\n

Another interesting fact that you may notice as you walk in the city, Lyon has many alleyways<\/strong> that are called traboules<\/em> in French. They were used as a way to go from one building to another<\/strong> without taking the main street.<\/p>\n

The Christkindelsm\u00e4rik<\/strong>, as it is called in Alsace, is December\u2019s must-go event. For a month, Strasbourg turns into Christmas capital<\/strong> thanks to its amazing Christmas market<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All the Alsatian specialties<\/strong> will be within reach, so the trickiest part is choosing what to each for lunch! Make sure you taste the flammekueche<\/em> or the sp\u00e4tzle;<\/em> they\u2019re truly delicious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll find everything you need at the foot of the beautiful Gothic cathedral<\/strong>, since many stands are located there. Near the station, on the place Kl\u00e9ber<\/strong>, you\u2019ll be in awe while staring at the thirty-meter high Christmas tree<\/strong>. Every year, on the first weekend of December, Nancy celebrates the Saint Nicholas festivities<\/a>. It\u2019s an important tradition in the east of France<\/strong> during which people eat mannele<\/em> -small man-shaped brioches<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Le Touquet also hosts another Christmas event during the winter holidays, the Christmas Jazz Festival<\/strong>. For those who might be interested, it consists of jazz concerts. So jazz lovers, don\u2019t hesitate to come!<\/p>\n
