It is also <strong>the second-largest royal castle in France<\/strong>, after Versailles castle.<\/p>\n<p>A national treasure <strong>you must not miss<\/strong>. Immerse yourself in another time and enjoy 130 hectares of gardens and parks (free access).<\/p>\n<p>Every early June, the city hosts a history and art festival with debates, meetings and exhibitions taking place in the castle and in the city. You can visit this Gothic-style church with or without a guide. It went through several historical events such as the French Revolution and World War II.<\/p>\n<p>Mantes-la-Jolie is the ideal place to take a walk because it has many gardens and parks.<\/p>\n<p>It should be your destination if you are looking for some fresh air not far from the capital and for a place to walk and visit old buildings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Chantilly<\/h2>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\ude97 1 hour drive<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22182\" src=\"https:\/\/www.france-hotel-guide.com\/fr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chantilly-chateau.jpg\" alt=\"chantilly-chateau\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Located in the Oise department, Chantilly is <strong>famous for its castle<\/strong> which is closely linked to French history as the main artists of the 17th century have stayed in that place. Among them we can find La Fontaine, Moli\u00e8re, Racine etc.<\/p>\n<p>In the castle, you can find <strong>the Cond\u00e9 museum<\/strong> which has <strong>one of the largest old art collections of France<\/strong> and also <strong>the second old-painting collection<\/strong> after the Louvre museum one.<\/p>\n<p>The local <strong>culinary specialty is whipped cream<\/strong>, known as <em>cr\u00e8me Chantilly<\/em>, which would have been invented by Fran\u00e7ois Vatel, one of the castle <em>ma\u00eetre d\u2019h\u00f4tels<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I advise you to pay a visit to <strong>the Atelier de la Chantilly<\/strong> at 48 Rue de Conn\u00e9table 60500 Chantilly. He met his wife, their Empress Eug\u00e9nie de Montijo there.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>imperial theatre<\/strong>\u2019s architecture and acoustics are outstanding. This theatre was originally built at Napoleon III&#8217;s request to entertain his court and now hosts many concerts, musical comedies and other performances. It is among the \u201cFrench Towns and Lands of Art and History\u201d thanks to its <strong>Mus\u00e9e des Beaux-Arts<\/strong>, a place to visit for painting enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can visit Jeanne-d\u2019Arc\u2019s house<\/strong>, where she lived when she freed the town. This house became a museum gathering a great amount of documentation about the Hundred Years\u2019 War. You should also <strong>pay a visit to the Martroi square<\/strong> if you want to see a statue of Jeanne d\u2019Arc on a horseback.<\/p>\n<p>Go for a walk along the largest river of France, <strong>the Loire river<\/strong>, and enjoy the fauna, flora and castles. If you want to know more about the ancient marshes, you should visit <strong>the Hortillonnages museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Discover <strong>the city\u2019s zoo<\/strong>, which has <strong>more than 120 species<\/strong>.
