They usually cross through building blocks and courtyards.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll find most of them in Saint Jean &#8211; here in <b>Vieux Lyon<\/b> &#8211; and in the <b>Croix Rousse neighborhood<\/b>, which we\u2019ll talk about later in this guide.<\/p>\n<p>For now, let us dive into the <b>Saint Jean traboules<\/b>, using this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lyontraboules.net\/saint_jean.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interactive map<\/a> which will help you not to miss anything. The explanations are unfortunately only in French; however, you\u2019ll still be able to follow the path fairly easily.<\/p>\n<p>Your journey will begin at the <b>Place Saint Jean<\/b>, take your time to go through every spot on the map to truly enjoy the beauty of the traboules &#8211; it shouldn\u2019t take you too long to complete anyway.<\/p>\n<p><i>Be careful not to disturb the privacy of the people living there, as this will mainly take place in residential lots.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re done, you should be facing the <b>Saint Jean Cathedral<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>3) Vieux Lyon: Saint Jean Cathedral<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16073\" src=\"https:\/\/www.france-hotel-guide.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cath\u00e9drale-Saint-Jean.jpg\" alt=\"Cath\u00e9drale Saint Jean\" width=\"620\" height=\"827\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Basilica of Fourvi\u00e8re is not the only magnificent religious monument <b>Vieux Lyon<\/b> has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Saint Jean Cathedral<\/b> &#8211; also known as \u201cPrimatiale Saint Jean\u201d \u2013 was built between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, and is another <b>architectural gem<\/b> of Lyon.<\/p>\n<p>This monument played an important role during huge <b>historical events<\/b> such as the wedding of King Henry the Fourth and Catherine of Medicis &#8211; a well-known figure in French history.<\/p>\n<p>From the outside as well as from the inside, you\u2019ll be able to admire the <b>stained-glass windows <\/b>and the <b>central rosette <\/b>decorating the cathedral\u2019s facade.<\/p>\n<p>As you enter, look for the <b>astronomical clock<\/b> inside the cathedral, which still uses its primitive mechanism from the sixteenth century.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16072\" src=\"https:\/\/www.france-hotel-guide.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cath\u00e9drale-Saint-Jean-int\u00e9rieur.jpg\" alt=\"Cath\u00e9drale Saint Jean\" width=\"620\" height=\"984\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It should be able to give you the date as well as the positions of the moon, the sun and the earth. Because people are living there, the <b>private area<\/b> &#8211; where you\u2019ll <b>mainly find the interesting spots <\/b>&#8211; has <b>opening hours<\/b> that you should respect if you ever want to visit it.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as you arrive on the island, the visit begins. The bridge you have to use to get across was built in 1827, and is the <b>oldest standing bridge in the whole city<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The Barbe Island is a <b>real-life mythical place <\/b>where <b>druids <\/b>and <b>priests <\/b>used to get together, especially at the <b>abbey <\/b>built in the fifth century.
