It is to King Louis XIV that we owe the creation of the Comédie-Française in 1680.
The most famous of the writers of the Comédie-Française is without any doubt Molière who is still considered as patron of French actors today.
After occupying a number of buildings, the Comédie-Française today has its home in the splendid Salle Richelieu at the Palais-Royal in the first arrondissement of Paris.
The Comédie-Française remains the only state theatre in the country to have a permanent company of actors, namely the Troupe des Comédiens français.
